FAQ

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Patients report a variety of sensations during their acupuncture treatment. The responses vary from each individual.  The sensation you feel when the needle is inserted or manipulated is referred to as a Qi 'chi' response.  Some common ways of describing the feeling include a heavy sensation around the needle, pulsating, warm, itchy,  quick pinch and throbbing.  If at any time you feel you are experiencing an unpleasant sensation, just let the Acupuncturist know.

How should I prepare for my first treatment?

What are the marks that show up after Cupping Therapy?

There is a theory in Chinese medicine that states "where there is pain, there is stagnation." The discoloration that appears after a cupping session is a result of moving stagnant blood and fluids closer to the surface of the skin to promote new blood flow to the area. Resulting in anywhere from a light pink to dark purple coloration.  The coloration of the marks are significant diagnostic tools for an Acupuncturist to assess the severity of stagnation in the area the cups were applied. The marks should  not be painful and fade away within several days to a week.  Aftering cupping therapy you should keep the treated area out of the sun, out of direct contact with fans/wind/AC. And drink plenty of water after a cupping session
